The following are some tools that are available for health screening and prevention of disease.
Body Scan – This new CT scanner is able to take 3-D images of your torso and abdomen. The scan, performed at a heart center and read by a board certified cardiologist, will tell us if the arteries are clear or if any blockage exists. This will help to determine if any further intervention is necessary without doing a routine angiogram. The Coronary Artery Calcium Score (CACS) is one of the most advanced methods available to detect heart disease in its earliest stages. In general, the higher the CACS, the greater the risk of heart attack. It does not require any needles or “probing”.
Bone Density – A bone density test is recommended for certain people at risk and after age 50.
Mammogram – A mammogram (preferably a digital mammogram) is recommended for most women annually after age 40.
