Maintaining a Healthy Weight Requires a Healthy Liver

How Well Do You Know Your Liver?

Your liver is one of the hardest working organs in your body! Keeping it healthy is essential to maintaining a healthy weight, and controlling chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and more. It is working around the clock, cleansing your blood, maintaining your blood sugar levels, digesting fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, producing bile and other important enzymes, as well as storing vitamins, minerals, and glycogen.  Your liver filters, eliminates or neutralizes everything you put in your body – whether you eat it, drink it, inhale it, or absorb it through your lovely skin.

Our Standard American Diet (SAD!) of high fat and nutritionally void processed food not only packs on the weight, but also fails to support a healthy liver by congesting it with fat. Your liver is also responsible for the production of bile. Bile helps with digestion. Your liver sends toxins into the bile which is stored in your gallbladder.  It breaks down fats into fatty acids, which are taken into the body by the digestive tract.  If your liver becomes overloaded then so does the amount of toxin that gets into the bile.  Excess fat and sugarwill then pile up in all the wrong places – your arteries, your brain – and your waist! Plus all that stress on your liver generally accelerates the aging process.

Your liver plays a big part in controlling your metabolism

It must be in good working order for any kind of weight loss plan to work. If you are experiencing weight gain, bloating, high blood pressure, fatigue, as well as fluctuating or elevated blood sugar levels, chances are your liver is overwhelmed. A hampered liver cannot maintain good bile development or enzyme production, important for thyroid and protein production, as well as fat burning metabolism.

There’s hope!

At Radiance, Gail Clayton, our functional medicine provider, can order a comprehensive metabolic test to determine your liver health.  She can then make any recommendations to get you on the right track.  If weight loss is necessary, we have the award winning Ideal Protein Weight Loss Program where we have countless success stories.

There is recent evidence that introducing fish oil into your diet can help reverse liver damage. At Radiance we offer Biotics Research Optimal EFAs in capsule and liquid form. Be sure you are getting enough Vitamin D for optimal all-around health. We offer Designs for Health Vitamin D Ultra.

At Radiance, we also offer Lipo-B injections. These Lipotropic combination shots enhance liver function and increase the flow of fats and bile from the liver and gallbladder. Lipo-B decreases fat deposits and speeds up the metabolism and the natural removal of fat from the body. The key vitamins and amino acids in these shots are Vitamin B12, B6, Choline, Methione, and Inositol. This combination supports healthy cell growth, boosts energy, and supports liver function.  It also helps to prevent excess fat buildup in the liver and the body and assists in reduction of blood cholesterol.  Further, it facilitates the action of serotonin, a neurotransmitter known to control mood and appetite. You can purchase them in a package of 10 injections or simply come in once a week for your injection.

A few more things you can do

Get rid of high fructose corn syrups and all the yellow oils you have in your pantry.  These are Omega 6 oils and they build up in your liver forming fatty deposits.  So ditch all oils such as corn, safflower, soybean, sunflower and canola. Start cooking with olive oil and coconut oil. Try to eat organic as much as possible, especially meats and dairy, to avoid the high corn, soy and antibiotic diets conventional farm animals are raised on. Avoid excess alcohol, refined sugars, caffeine, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals. Avoid artificial foods, such as colors, additives and sweeteners. Avoid excess chemicals in your home, such as strong cleaning products.  Drink lots of filtered water, and get plenty of fresh air and sunshine – with Reflect RX sunscreen, of course!
