BPA , or bisphenol-A, is found in more than just plastic water bottles and has been linked to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and infertility.
Always try to drink from glass, stainless steel or “BPA-free” labeled bottles. When you purchase food in plastic containers, check the bottom. Look for only plastics with numbers 1, 2 and 4. Number 7 will likely contain BPA. A good rule of thumb is clear hard plastic usually contains BPA, and softer opaque plastic does not.
Some canned food liners can also contain BPA. Your food and juice may actually become contaminated by BPA leaching into your food. Another reason to choose fresh! BPA has even been found in baby formula sold in metal cans. Powdered formula tends to be the best choice.
Another place BPA has been found is in thermal paper such as that used in cash register receipts. If you can’t avoid them, wash your hands immediately after handling them.
Finally, you’ve been hearing this for years, but never put plastic containers in the microwave!
