Don’t we always have the same resolutions year after year?

Exercise more and eat better? Well, by sticking to those resolutions this time, we are doing our skin a big favor. Along with the kidneys and liver, the skin in one of our body’s tools for ridding itself of toxins. Exercise helps us do just that. It gives the glands a workout too, helping the skin to get rid of the impurities that can clog our pores or cause breakouts. So most important, don’t forget to wash that beautiful face after exercising!

Exercise increases oxygen and blood flow that carry nutrients to our skin. Radiance loves Primal Fitness for its terrific boot camps and whole health approach to fitness. Visit www.primalpt.com to get started on a fitness course that will change your life!

Not just our waistlines, but our skin can benefit from a healthy diet rich in fruits, veggies, and vitamins. Vitamins A, C, & E, Niacin, Biotin, and Omega 3 Fatty Acids are essential to good skin and overall health. Radiance carries Cosmedix,  Glymed, and SkinMedica professional skin care products that contain many of these important vitamins. Radiance offers several great post-work out cleansers, including Benefit Clean by Cosmedix. Ask one of our expert Radiance aestheticians what would be best for your individual needs. We can address all skin types, including oily, dry, and aging.

Did you know that stress can affect every cell in our body? And of course, our skin is made up of more than a few cells. Recent research has found that stress is the second leading cause of aging skin, second only to sun exposure. The stress hormone cortisol triggers cellular inflammation. When too much cortisol is released into your body it can damage your cell membranes, shorten DNA strands and reduce production of collagen and elastin. At Radiance, Dr. Bobbie Stowe, our functional medicine doctor, can test your cortisol levels and suggest lifestyle changes and supplementation that will help control your stress levels and benefit your overall health. Further, exercise is the ultimate stress reliever!

Vitamin A helps increase collagen production and gives us fuller firmer skin. Also, since Vitamin A is an antioxidant, it helps repair free radical damage to skin cells that lead to wrinkling and sagging. It can be found in sweet potatoes, leafy greens, broccoli, and colorful produce such as carrots and red bell peppers. Vitamin A is a primary ingredient in Refine RX Vitamin A Resurfacing Serum and Results RX A Solution which can be found here at Radiance.

Another antioxidant, Vitamin C, is excellent at stopping free radicals before they do any damage. Good sources are red bell peppers, broccoli, strawberries, papaya and pineapple. At Radiance, we offer Glymed Daily Repair Mega-Moisture Cream and Cosmedix Pure C Mixing Crystals, which are pure Vitamin C crystals that dissolve and become active when mixed with moisturizer.

Radiance Rules For Exercising & Skin Care

Don’t wear make-up while exercising! We all want to look lovely at the gym, but it’s more important to keep the dirt, sweat and make-up from creating the perfect storm of bacteria on our lovely faces!

Always wash your face immediately after working out. If you can’t, keep a good astringent such as Cosmedix Purity Balance in your bag along with a few cotton balls. You can use this in a pinch to clean off that post-work out sweat.

If you have heat-related rosacea, try interval training that doesn’t keep you running full speed for long periods. Swimming may also be a good choice since the water will keep you cool for your entire work-out.

We love to get outdoors to run and bike when the weather is nice. Don’t forget a good sunscreen such as Results Reflect RX or SkinMedica Daily Physical Defense which can both be found here at Radiance. Ask one of our Radiance aestheticians which would be best for you.

Keep moving! Find something fun and keep doing it. Your mental, physical, emotional, and now your aesthetic health depend on it. Just think, next year you will have to come up with brand new resolutions!
